Why an Online Conference?
The intense summer conference schedule means that a great deal of meeting time must be squeezed into a few short weeks and a handful of conference locales. We frequently have to lament that our conference presenters could only be in one place at one time . . .
. . . until now, that is! Today’s Internet makes it possible to overcome at least some of the limitations of space and time, and it makes it possible to offer an Essential Grade Four Conference – online! Following the successful introduction of online Waldorf workshops through our recent Halftime Webinars, we are ready to expand and present the first-ever Waldorf online teachers’ conference.
Here is how it will work:
On Saturday, June 12, conference participants will receive links to 12 lectures and presentations by Eugene Schwartz (click here to see the lecture/presentation topics). Most of these will be links to audio files of 60 – 75 minute lectures. Several of the links will lead to videos in which fourth grade student work will be illuminated by commentary on the Grade Four curriculum. In addition, there will be three “live” evening colloquia in which, via computer and telephone, Eugene will answer questions about the lectures participants have heard and other aspects of Grade Four.
Except for the three live broadcasts, all of the lecture/presentations will be available online from June 12 to June 20. This means that participants can listen to the content whenever they wish, and as often as they wish, for nine days. (How often have you taken notes as rapidly as possible at a lecture and wished in vain that you could hear it again?)
It may be that your school is still in session during the days of June 12 to 20, or that you are swamped with report writing or meetings. With this in mind, you can instead choose to join the Essential Grade 4 Conference during the week of June 26 to July 4.
We have now added a third session -- July 18 to 25 -- to accommodate teachers in the United Kingdom whose school year ends in mid-July. Anyone else for whom these dates are convenient is also welcome to sign up for this time.
And yes, there will be handouts. PDFs of relevant Grade Four resource material will be available for you to download during the conference weeks.
“But I’m not good with computers!”
Don’t worry! The conference “interface” is completely user-friendly! The nearly 200 participants in our online Halftime Webinars in January, 2010, experienced very few difficulties, and most were resolved in a few minutes. All you need is broadband access to the Internet. We recommend Firefox as the most reliable Web browser for this conference.
Your Fee - and Your Savings
The fee for the conference week is $200.00. That is all that you pay. Since you are participating from your home or school, there are no travel expenses, no accommodations expenses, no dining expenses. Many of you would have to spend five or six times this amount to attend a Grade Four conference in New York or California. In these difficult economic times, such savings can make a significant difference. And no other Waldorf conference will allow you to leave such a small carbon footprint.
We hope that you will join us!
